William Palmer: survived the sinking of HMS Voltaire. Pictures from the Voltaire and Marlag u Milag Nord POW camp

24/10/2010

Hello Mac,

I have written to you before about my grandfather William Palmer who survived the sinking of HMS Voltaire in 1941. I have previously e-mailed you the painting of his ship which I am so happy to see on the Voltaire pages.

See
"William Palmer survived the sinking of HMS Voltaire to spend the rest of the war in a POW camp in Germany"
and
"Painting of HMS Voltaire by William Palmer who survived the sinking"

Incredibly I have recently found a photo of my grandfather taken in Voltaire (right hand side in white). Also some photos taken at Marlag u Milag Nord POW camp where my grandfather was held captive before his release at the end of world war 2. The photos were sent home to my grandmother in England in 1943. They state they are from William Palmer, Carp, P.O. R.N.R....POW No. 98566. I don't know if all the men in the photos are from Voltaire but my grandfather is in all of them.

I would be very grateful if you can add them to the Voltaire  pages.

Kind regards,
John Mills

John,

Thank you for your Mail and the photographs of your Grandfather in Voltaire and also in the German POW Camp, I have sent them on to my Web Master, Terry Kearns in Atlanta Georgia, and asked him to add them to our Voltaire/ pages.

Regards,
Mac.
