Santa Marija Convoy - Malta and Operation Pedistal

Santa Marija Convoy - Malta

Dear Mr Gregory,

I am one great fan of your site. WW2 is one of my favourite subjects and on your net I find everything that is of interest to me.

I read the story of the German sailor and believe me I really enjoyed reading it. I also learned a lot from his story. Below that story was another one written by Mr Philip Wooley regarding the note that his late uncle wrote with precision details while experiencing "Operation Pedestal",  which was Malta's last chance before it was to surrender. Food supplies had come to an end and they had started to kill what horses remained to feed the hungry population. It also replenished ammunition badly needed for the guns.

"Operation Pedestal" (that is what that convoy was called) is known as the battle of Santa Marija (St Mary's Battle) because the day the tanker Ohio (which entered harbour barely afloat) and other merchant ships was St Mary's feast and it is still celebrated to this day all around the island.

God bless the late Reg Young and all sailors and pilots who gave their lives to save Malta. God gives you health and strength to you sir, so you can continue to tell us why heros gave their lives so others might live the life we know today.

Kindly keep up the good work Mr Gregory. I for one really appreciate it.

Best of Regards,
J. Buttigieg

Joseph,

Thank you for writing, and for your kind words about AHOY, I just research the various topics, write about them, and the hard part is done by Terry Kearns my Web Master and friend in Atlanta Georgia, who takes all that work, and presents it in the form anyone can find if they log on to AHOY.

The story of Walter from U-767 is an amazing one, and how we came by it, is in itself quite a story.

With best wishes.
Mac. Gregory.
