SS Southlands on AHOY, and the one Jackie is talking about is a different ship to your one involved with the Flying Enterprise

My Dear Mr. Gregory:

I am truly beside myself.... I found an article in my fathers belongings and was sharing it with a friend just the other day... I just received a call from her telling my I needed to come back to your site.... There was updates and news of my inquiry on AHOY.....

I saw the responses from others and would truly want to correspond...Pictures yes, memories yes.

BUT.... I would also like to share an update what I HAVE FOUND in the last 3 days.....

Capt William Lawton.... His wife is still residing in Jacksonville FLorida.... She is 84

Marion Swisher... Crew Member... Congressional Medal Award for the Rescue at Sea of the Flying Enterprise crew and passengers is still residing in Jacksonville Florida... he is 81

And now I am seeing a response from Jackie Marsh regarding her Father.... How Exciting....

I just want to Clarify... This is the SS SOUTHLAND that was home based out of SAVANNAH GA in the early 1950's and was a MERCHANT SHIP that was the FIRST IN THE WATER WITH LIFE BOATS IN THE RESCUE OF THE FLYING ENTERPRISE CREW AND PASSENGERS.... IF I CAN LOCATE ANY SURVIORS AND OR FAMILY MEMBERS OF THE SS SOUTHLAND AS WELL AS FLYING ENTERPRISE.... IT WOULD BE SO GREATLY APPRECIATED.... THERE IS A WOMAN WHO WAS FROM ENGLAND THAT MY FATHER PULLED FROM THE SEA... I DON’T KNOW HER NAME... PERHAPS HER CHILDREN AND OR GRAND CHILDREN WILL SEE MY WRITINGS... PERHAPS JACKIE CAN PICKUP FROM HER SIDE OF THE POND....

WAITING ANXIOUSLY TO HEAR FROM THOSE WHO CAN HELP ME WITH MY "NEXT STEP BACK IN TIME"....

FAY CRAWFORD HEYWOOD..... DAUGHTER OF "WILLIE D. CRAWFORD"

Fay,

I am afraid the SS Southlands on AHOY, and the one Jackie is talking about is a different ship to your one involved with the Flying Enterprise.

This one was a part of  Atlantic Convoy RB1 in WW2, which was attacked by U-Boats on the 26th. of September 1942, one of the escorts HMS Veteran was sunk with all hands.

Separately I will E-Mail you a piece on Flying Enterprise.:

TEESSHIPS A FAVOURITE SHIP The FLYING ENTERPRISE Saga

I am sorry you were so excited but all to no avail.

Best wishes,
Mac. Gregory
