U.S.S. Griffin AS13 was the ship that escorted the six S. Boats to Brisbane

March 21, 2011

As a crew member of the U.S.S. Griffin AS13 was the ship that escorted the six S. Boats to Brisbane and established the base there, and escorted them Back to Panama when she then went to Oakland for overhaul. The Griffin had a good record of services to the S Boats and later the Fleet Subs. I have entered some information on http://www.tendertale.com/.

I have the Book U.S. Submarines Down Under and had the pleasure to meet Peter Nunan on a visit to Geelong and Brisbane. I have a cousin in Geelong (a born Aussie).

Feel free to respond if you would like.

Regards     Henry G. Spenceley

Henry,

Thank you for your mail, it does seem that the day of Submarine Tenders is now past, which is indeed a pity.

It so happens I was born in Geelong, so there is a link there.

Best wishes,
Mac.
