Trueman Priestley, a soldier on the Hospital Ship Anglia

Good Day Mac

I have been researching a cover (addressed envelope) to a Canadian Soldier who was killed on the HS Anglia.  Pte. Trueman Priestley, 53840, D Company, 18th Battalion, 4th Brigade, 2nd Canadian Army (2nd Division) was wounded on October 9, 1915 in the Ypres Salient.

According to the War Diaries of the 18th Battalion on the afternoon of October 9, 1915 a rifle grenade killed Pte. Taggart and wounded several others, including Pte Priestley in the legs and arms (and the rest is not legible).

There is no known grave for Pte. Priestley, however the Commonwealth War Graves list the Hollybrook Memorial.

I will send a scan of the cover (if you wish) or to other interested parties.

Thank-you for the time and energy in creating a valuable and very interesting website.

Regards,

Joseph,

Thank you for your E-Mail and your kind words about AHOY.

I would love a copy please of the Addressed envelope of the Canadian soldier Private Trueman Priestly to post on our web site at the HMHS Anglia page.

I am continually both suprised and gratified at the interest we seem to generate from our various subjects up on AHOY.

Best wishes to you over in Canada, one of our favourite countries to visit.

Mac.
