Sailed on HMAS Platypus

Facinated by your website, especially your pieces on HMAS Platypus and the WWII German Raider, Wolf.

My first RAN draught in 1955 was to the old Plats, then tied up alongside Doyle's Wharf at Watson's Bay in Sydney before being sent across Sydney Harbour to ship's in reserve at Chowder Bay, looking back it was my happiest ship.

One of the members of Wyong RSL Sub-Branch is a good mate of mine who served with the Australian Army's small ship detachment in WWII, his name is Bruce Pyne and he's over 80, his father was a Purser with Burns Phillip in the First War and was taken prisoner when Wolf sank his vessel from under him. Bruce's father was onboard the raider when she laid mines from Cape Farewell to Gabo Island, imprisoned in Germany he later went on to become the Governor of Tonga where Bruce was born.
regards, Irish.

Irish,

Thank you for your kind comments about AHOY, it is jointly provided by my writing being turned into the web site that is presented to the world by my very good friend in Atlanta, Georgia, Terry Kearns.

We like to think we make a great team, and are always pleased to receive a pat on the back when someone such as yourself takes the trouble to write to us.

Thanks again,
Mac.
