RM R S Dobbs survived the sinking of the Curacoa

Curacoa

I was interested to read your account of the sinking of the Curacoa. My father was one of the 101 survivors and for many years we ran a society called 'Men of the Curacoa' for the survivors and relatives meeting annually
on the nearest Saturday to 2nd Oct. I was contacted a few years ago by a lady in Canada who was researching the collision for a show and supplied her copies of many of the photos etc which I have collected over the years.
Unfortunately I lost contact with her.

There are only a couple of survivors still alive that I am aware of now. Of
course after 65 years they are all in their 80 - 90's.

Regards

Valerie Gell
Daughter of RM R S Dobbs (died 1997)

Hello Valerie,

Thank you for taking the trouble to write about your Father and his survival from the sinking of Curacoa, a nasty affair, and so many sailors lost after she was run down by QM.

I have had a number of E-Mails from both survivors and their relatives but not from a lady in Canada.

Best regards,
Mac.
