Photo which is captioned 'Thetis departing' is actually a photo of a sub being launched

Dear Mac,

Enyed our article but I think you will find that the photo which is captioned 'Thetis departing' is actually a photo of a sub being launched. One of the survivors Frank Shaw was a foreman fitter when I was employed there as a fitter up to the early 60's. Needless to say Frank did not work on submarines. I myself did sea trials with Sealion as well as the safety clip another addition to tube doors was added, a reamer was clipped and chained to the door so that when the check cock was opened to verify an empty tube if no water was observed the reamer was pushed through the open cock to prove it was not blocked.

Ken C.

Hello Ken,

Thank you, you are so right, I should have looked more closely myself. We will change the caption thanks to your eagle eye. One is always shown up to a mere mortal with the errors that are on show.

Perhaps we change our caption to: A submarine slides down the slipway at its launching.

Your E-Mail is appreciated.
Mac.
