More on the raider Tallahassee

Have just bumped into your site for the first time.  Well done!

I grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia in the 1950s and often heard the story of the escape of the Tallahassee. In recognition of the event there is still a school called the Tallahassee Community School near the Eastern Passage where Captain John Taylor Wood was guided for his escape.  Captain Wood (who also had a commission as a Colonel in the Confederate Cavalry) returned and settled in Nova Scotia after the Civil War.

Dear Alan,

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to mail me about the Civil War Raider Tallahasse.

Those were indeed stirring times, and a few Rebel Raiders very nearly brought the then mighty US Navy undone.

I have always been interested in the exploits of a few intrepid Captains and their crews and ships.

The web sites you cite will be of interest.

We have visited Canada on a number of times, also went to Calgary, always enjoy the experience.

Best regards,

Mac.
