Looking for a WW1 Hospital Ship, Devanka

Found your site.
Excellent!
Looking for a Hospital Ship "Devanka" WW1.

Nothing, anywhere on the web, therefore a rename perhaps? Any ideas?

Thanks
Desmond Coffey

Desmond,

Thank you for the compliment about Ahoy, my good friend, Terry Kearns in Atlanta Georgia, acts as my Web Master, and translates my research and scribblings into our site, he does the hard work.

I am unable to find a shred about any HS Devanka, but the following report mentions a  Devenah at Gallipoli in WW1, used as a Hospital Ship/Carrier. Perhaps that ship, even if it is the one you seek, was only used in the Dardanelles Campaign, and did not carry out any HS duties later in WW1.

Update 22 August 2006:

Hospital ship Devahna
Hospital ship Devanah

"Hospital Ships and Ambulance Trains" by John H Plumridge has an Annex at the back which is called "Hospital Ships and Other Vessels used for the Reception, Treatment and Movement of Casualties During the Gallipoli Campaign of 1915/16". Under the sub-heading of "Hospital Ships/Carriers", there are the following vessels:

Aquitania
Braemar Castle
Britannic
Delta
Devanah
Dongola
Dunluce Castle
Galeka

Gascon
Gloucester Castle
Goorkha

Grantala (Australian Naval Hospital Ship)
Guildford Castle
Karanowna
(Australian)
Karoola (Australian)
Letitia
Maheno
(New Zealand)
Mauretania
Neuralia
Sicilia
Somali (Royal navy)
Soudan
(Royal Navy)

That is the closest I can get to your named ship, but then I am unable to get anything else up about Devenah, sorry I am of little help to you.

Regards,
Mac.
