Karl Donitz's personal effects at the time of his capture?

Dear Mr. Gregory,

in searching for some information I came across your web site. Perhaps you can help. I have a camera that may have been owned by Karl Donitz. I am trying to verify it by tracing the serial number. Do you know where I might find a list of the personal items taken from Karl at the time of his arrest? Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Larry Vallery

Larry,

I have never seen any list of Karl Donitz's personal effects at the time of his capture.

The only item mentioned is his Gross Admiral's Baton, when captured at Flensburg on May 25th. 1945, Brigadier General Jack Churcher was in command of the 159th. Brigade which included the 4th. Kings Shropshire Light Infantry. He relieved the Gross Admiral of his Ceremonial Baton and kept it until 1964, when he donated it to the Shropshire Regimental Museum where it is still on display in Shrewsbury Castle.

Sorry I am unable to help you further.

Should you find you have in fact got the Gross Admiral's camera, please let me know, so we might add that news to AHOY.

Best wishes,
Mac. Gregory.
