Joe McDonald served in RMS Rangitata

Mac

it is with great revelation that i came upon your blog!

Having heard about the Rangitata on the BBC radio 4 in the article about John Prescott serving Eden! (see "UK Prime Minister Anthony Eden, current UK Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott, and the R.M.S. Rangitata")

My father also worked aboard the ship at that time. He was the 'butcher' and known as Joe McDonald, originaly from Glasgow. He also served with Owen Dunne from Dublin (my father married his sister on a brief stopover in dock in Dublin).

Joe will be 79 years old tomorrow, what a wonderful birthday present for him for me to be able to discuss with him some of the stories you have collected re this ship. I am going to try and print some of the photos for him and to give to his grandchildren for future reference and discussion.

He discusses this time with great fondness and often says, "if I hadn't met and married your mother, I would still be at sea"!. They will be 50 years married this year.

Thank you again for this information and restoring family history for me.

regards
Annmarie Burgess

Annmarie,

So pleased that we were able to help with your family history.

One of the joys of the internet is the ability some times to connect with people and provide

information that is helpful.

Happy returns to your father, I had my 85th. earlier this month, and AHOY keeps me out of trouble and off the streets.

Have a great time at your birthday celebrations.

Kindest regards,

Mac.
