Jean-Paul Lorcet participated in the battle of Mers el Kebir, managed to join the Free French Navy

Good evening Sir

I am called François Lorcet and my father Jean-Paul Lorcet, aged of 88, was a French sailor during the war. He participated in the battle of Mers el Kebir. Her ship was the destroyer Mogador. She was sunk by the battleship Hood.

After Mers el Kebir, my father left for Madagascar. He arrived in Diego Suarez and once again was attacked by the English, Australian and South African troops. He was taken on board the troopship Oronsay and arrived in Liverpool.

He was taken to a camp where there were plenty of German sailors. He was prisoner for more than one year but thanks to a British officer he managed to join the Free French Navy. He hunted down the German submarines in the Mediterranean Sea.

If someone is interested in his adventures, don’t hesitate to communicate with him :

Jean-Paul LORCET

Dear Francoir,

Thank you for your interesting message about your Father, we would love to hear his stories so that we might add them to AHOY so that others may enjoy his WW2 experiences.

Would it please be possible for you to ask him to let you have his stories, and in turn you could let me have them via email?

I am grateful to you taking the time and effort o get in touch with me.

Best wishes to you both.
Mackenzie.
