Research for the forthcoming book, "Pacific Fury"

Dear Mac,

Many thanks for your message with the details about 1944 and also the photograph which I'll use in the book. (The title, incidentally, is "Pacific Fury"). I'm spending today in the magnificent La Trobe reading room at the State Library where they have a fairly extensive Pacific War collection and also many biographies. Tomorrow I'm off to Brisbane to see
my family and to do some writing and then I'm spending a few days in Singapore at the Tanglin Club to do some more work. I've been on the road since March 4. This has been a very fruitful and enjoyable trip and meeting you has been one of the highlights. Many thanks for your assistance. It is a remarkable experience to discuss the Battle of Savo Island and the other engagements in the Philippines and elsewhere with someone who was actually there.

I'll keep in touch.

Best wishes,
Peter

Peter,

Your very kind words are appreciated.

I too enjoyed our meeting, but pleased to be of help if only in a minor way.

Look forward to the finished product, and I trust it will become a runaway success.

Safe journey home to London Peter.

Best regards,
Mac.

TK,

Initially Peter Thompson who is an Australian that has lived in London since the sixties found AHOY, and wrote telling me he would be in Melbourne around Anzac Day in April ( the 25th. ) and that he was researching a new book on the Pacific War, to be named " Pacific Fury "

Random House had backed his concept, the manuscript to be delivered by September with publication in Febriary 2008.

When in Melbourne could we get together to discuss my part at Savo, and in the Pacific War?

I naturally said yes, and we met on Saturday April 21st, Peter came to our apartment and he recorded about two hours talk between us on his tape recorder,

Mac
