Heard of the Coastal Artillery Transportation Detachment?

I would like to know if you ever heard of the Coastal Artillery Transportation Detachment. My brother was in the 103rd Coastal Artillery Transportation Detachment on the Queen Mary. He was assigned to the British.

Jerry Broussard

Jerry,

No I have not come across the coastal artillery at sea, nor can I turn up anything about them when searching the internet.

Normally Allied merchant ships in WW2 fitted with defensive guns were manned by a branch of the Navy and were known as DEMS gunners, or Defensively Armed Merchant Ship gunners.

I think the Queen Mary had a 6 inch anti submarine gun fitted aft, and various small calibre AA guns around the ship.

In the US merchant fleet, they had members of the Armed Guard who manned their guns in a similar manner as did the DEMS gunners.

Sorry I am not able to help.

Regards,
Mac.
