Hi Mac,

Back in the mid-60s, a New Zealand cruiser which I'm sure was HMNZS Achilles of River Plate fame, visited Pearl Harbor.  I and a couple of my USN shipmates went aboard and then took several of the Kiwi seamen off to Waikiki for a night on the town.

I looked up Achilles online the other day and was surprised to read on Wikipedia and elsewhere that she was transferred to the Indian Navy in the late '40s.  Can you ponder a guess at the discrepancy?

Thank you,

Rory,

See this about HMNZS Achilles.

She went off to the Indian Navy in 1948 to be renamed INS Delhi.

I can find no evidence of a NZ cruiser visiting Hawaii in the sixties.

Regards,
Mac.
