HMAS Sydney name of a sailor Greetings. I have found your interesting web site and write to ask if you can help me please. I am doing some amateur genealogy for an elderly friend, who believes that a distant relative of hers, a man named H HALL, was a sailor on the HMAS Sydney during the 1940 period. I am not sure where to look, but I note you illustrate a photo of a wonderful marble memorial at Geraldton, and I wondered if his name was one of the men lost when the ship was sunk off the WA coast. All this may seem a little vague but I'm afraid I do not have any other details. Is there a web site which lists the names of the sailors inscribed on that memorial? I trust this enquiry is not an imposition and look forward to your courteous reply with interest. Yours faithfully Hello Ray, If you go to this URL: http://www.hmassydney.com/ you will find a Memorial Wall for all the crew of HMAS Sydney 11 who died when she sank. But H. Hall is not listed there. Here are all the Halls who served in the RAN in WW2:
If you can pick your Hall out from this list, you can print out his WW2 Certificate of Service by entering his details. Go to this site http://WW2roll.gov.au to bring up the Nominal Roll. Hope this helps a little, if you run into problems please get in touch. Regards.
I'm only a new chum on the net, but each new experience is a new bit of knowledge. Once again, many thanks |
