Gathering information on the Raider "WOLF"

Dear Mac,

I have been gathering information on the Raider "WOLF" for a number of  years and have been encouraged by your articles and some of your recent  correspondence. I have three of the books written about the Wolf and have  gathered quite a few photographs and information off the net. I am  particularly interested in the recent letter concerning the "Wolfchen"  and about the prisoners of war once landed in Germany. If there been any new information uncovered on these topics I would be most interested.

As with many of these things my original motivation was that my  Grandfather ( a chippy on the Wordsworth) was a small part of this  incredible story.

May I congratulate you on your excellent web site.

regards

Bob Galloway

Hello Bob,

Thank you for your message and kind words about AHOY. It is a joint effort with my friend Terry from Atlanta Georgia who does all the hard bits by taking all my writing about various subjects, and turning them into the site that the world can see, and hopefully enjoy.

Joseph in the States that offered to share the German side of the Wolf and her aircraft Wolfchen was in fact a retired bookseller. He offered to sell me three books on the subject, but they are all in German, so not being able to read in that language, they were of no use to me at all.

I will copy you with his E-Mail that sets out the details of those books, but no details about any POW's emerged from our exchange of E-Mails.

Do you know of a book The Cruise of the Raider Wolf, by Roy Alexander, he was a prisoner on board? It was published by Angus and Robertson Limited of Sydney and london in 1939. I have an old copy I picked up in Australia.

I am continually suprised by the interest in my German Armed Merchant Raiders of both WW1 and WW2 that are both on our site, and the number of people who take the trouble to write about their relatives who were caught up by being captured by those German ships.

Nice to talk with you.

Regards from both America and Australia.

Mac.
