Friend killed on Russell Inslands during WW2

My dad had his best friend killed on Russell Inslands during WW2.  I was trying to find out for him where and when he died.  They went to Boot camp together. They called him Tex. But dad said he thought his last name was Kyle There is not much on the seabees on WW2. can  you help me. Dad is 80 and was on a DE. Thank you John Weiss

John,

I do not have enough information to pin down your Dad's Seabee friend, but I am sending several E-Mails.

1. A map of the Solomon Island area where you will find Russell Island.

Solomon Island with Russell Island

2. A history of the Seabees.

3. How you apply for the details of a Veteran.

After the landings at Guadalcanal in August of 1942, US troops started to slowly move northwards, and in February of 1943 Russell Island was invaded, 55 miles to the north west, the Seabees completed an airfield in 6 weeks.

I am sorry that I cannot be specific for you, but trust this information is of some value.

Regards,

Mac. Gregory.
