Hello Mac - Found your website by chance when looking for info on HMS Boadicea this being prompted by finding a newspaper while clearing  my desk. I've no personal connection with the ship apart from the fact that I am a friend of John Hawkins, son of Frederick Hawkins who was captain and died when she was lost.

I saw a message on the site from a lady by name of Erin, whose grandfather was on the ship and survived the sinking, who is trying to find out more about the ship. I wonder if you still have a contact address for her? I have just phoned John and passed on details of your site which despite a continuing active interest in the ship he had never come across. He has in fact been in contact with several of the survivors over the years. He will be contacting you by e-mail to see whether you have her address.

If you are able to contact her you perhaps you could also mention that I have a local newspaper (21/04/07)  with a double page spread concerning John's father and his uncle Ron, an  RAF fighter pilot. The latter was  an evader early on in the war and made it back to the UK. (Sadly he was killed during a Typhoon fighter bomber attack in 1943).

If Erin would like to contact me I'll be pleased to post the newspaper on to her - tell her there will be no postal cost involved. Alternatively if she gives John her details he will forward to me.

Hope this may be of interest to you- a great site that seems to attract much deserved traffic .

Best wishes-

Hello Dick,

My thanks to you for taking the trouble to contact me, it is mail like yours that makes AHOY so worthwhile when we
can act as a Post Office to forward some information to an interested person or put them in touch with someone such
as yourself to round out details about a ship in which their relation has served.

Your kind words about AHOY are also appreciated.

If tyou can send me the newspaper details we can add it to AHOY for others who may be interested in HMS Boadicia.

Your message has  been sent onto Erin who I hope will contact you directly.

Kindest regards and best wishes for 2010,

Mac.
