Father-in-law was a Merchant Seaman aboard the Ramses

Hello Mac

My father-in-law was a Merchant Seaman aboard the Ramses, from 1939 until  the scutting. He then spent the next years in POW camps, with the rest of the crew.

He lives in New Zealand, and is 82years old. He enjoyed very much reading the articles you have on your site, it brought back many memories for him.

Thanks,
Helena Mende

His name is Gerhardt Emil Hermann Mende.

Helena,

Thank you for your nice E-Mail, it is sometimes a very small world, Gerhardt would have been picked up by crew members of my ship HMAS Adelaide, and then would have sailed in her with me also on board back to Fremantle, and then off to a POW camp, probably at Tatura in the state of VIctoria. Post WW2 he would have been repatriated to Germany? and then when did he migrate to NZ?

We are both the same age of 82, so share that in common too.

Please give him greetings from Australia, and my best wishes for more years to come.

Mac. Gregory.
