Edith Cavell Memorials

Edith Cavell Memorial

Good morning Mr. Mckenzie - my sister - in England - told us about your web - site - we are related to Edith as her Father & our Great-grandfather were brothers. I live in Lara with my husband and married in Greensborough - shamefulIy I have yet to go and see Edith's memorial in the Domain. A friend in Hawthorn has told us it is there and we have seen a few of the others, but obviously by-passed Edith's statue. Her memory is commemorated in lots of ways in the UK and overseas - the memorial in Ararat here is another one and the wonderful Mount Edith Cavell in Jasper, Canada.  Also, in Hobart - there is Cavell Road and a motel nearby associated with a man whom we believe was nursed by Edith. 0ur best wishes. We hope you keep well.

Kind regards,
Patricia Hammond

Patricia,

Thank you for your letter about AHOY and Edith Cavell's Memorial. Incidentally my Christian name is Mackenzie, but all my life it is often taken as my surname.

I lived in Rosanna for 45 years before moving to Mount Eliza and for the last 7 years on St Kilda Road. I was born in Geelong, close to Lara.

Quite suprising you came to AHOY via your sister in England, we do get a deal of mail from many countries across this globe of ours, one of the pleasures from E-Mail and the Internet.

Do look at Edith's Memorial when next you come up to the city.

Nice of you to write.

Best regards to both your husband and yourself.

Mackenzie.
