Did Winston Churchill visited HMAS Australia sometime between late 1940 - early 1941?

Hi Mac,

How have you been? I hope you enjoyed "Stoking the Fires". I was hoping you may be able to confirm something for me that I stumbled upon the other day. I noticed this item on Ebay, which seemed to indicate that Winston Churchill visited HMAS Australia sometime between late 1940 - early 1941.

Could you please advise if this occurred, and if so what your memories of the visit are.

BTW:- In case you get this tonight, the ABC has a documentary, "The Hunt for HMAS Sydney" on at 8:30pm tonight. I thought it might be of interest.

Stephen Lynch

Stephen,

Nice to hear from you.

I certainly did enjoy my devouring of your Book Stoking The Fires, great read.

I joined HMAS Australia in September 1939 and served in her until about May 1941, I can assure you that Winston Churchill never visited the ship in my time in her, over that period of time.

I am aware of the Sydney programme on the ABC supposedly tonight, but its not listed in today's AGE TV programmes.

Must wait and see.

Best wishes,
Mac.
