Commander Warwick Bracegirdle featured in Australian War Memorial exhibition

Dear Mac,

Currently the Australian War Memorial is preparing a temporary exhibition entitled 50 Australians, which will run from 19 August-23 to October 2005. One of the persons to be featured in this exhibition is
Commander Warwick Bracegirdle. At the moment i am trying to find photographs of him during his active war service to complement the one we already have in our collection of Commodore Showers and Commander Bracegirdle standing together on the Shropshire.

I found a photograph on your website "Braces revs up his gunnery team before the Leyte landings in the Phillipines in October 1944" accompanying the Introduction to stories of Commander Warwick racegirdle DSC**RAN, which we would be interested in borrowing.

Let me know if this is at all possible

Sincerely

Amanda Rebbeck

You certainly can with pleasure, will you pick it up from my website, or do you want me to E-Mail it to you?

There is another one of Braces as the attending Officer when Admiral Sir H.D'Oyley Lyon KCB is inspecting a Guard of Honour In Shropshire in 1943. It is reproduced in Stan Nicholls' book HMAS Shropshire, and has a notation Australian War Memorial.

Should you be unable to locate it, and would like a copy, I could scan it and E-mail it to you.

Regards,
Mac. Gregory.

Mac,

Thank you very much, e-mailing both images would be great. The exhibition team for Fifty Australians are meeting with the designers early next week to discuss the layout. I can't definately say that the photos you send me will make it into the final exhibition plan but if we can provide as many images as possible of Braces and the other 49 Australians featured the designers will be able to make the exhibition as diverse, informative and as enlightening as possible.

Sincerely
Amanda Rebbeck

Amanda,

Are you aware that Rear Admiral Sir Leighton Bracegirdle. KCVO,CMG, DSO ( 1881-1970 ) who was the Official Secretary at Government House Canberra to Governors General from 1931 to 1947 was Warwick Bracegirdle's Father?

Sir William McKell followed Sir Leighton's last GG, who was the Duke of Gloucester, and from 1950 to 1953, I was Sir William's Aide-de-Camp.

Just hoping to assist a little.

Regards,
Mac.

Thanks Mac I'll pass that on, quite a distinguished family!

Amanda
