Captain Maxwell Rintels, captain of a Merchant ship?

Hi Mac,

By accident, I stumbled upon your site, which I think is what I am looking (hoping) for. I am looking for information on my God-father – Captain Maxwell Rintels. I tried the various search-engines and genealogy sites, but have come up blank.

This gentleman was a German, whom I”ve been told was a captain of a Merchant ship. I am not sure if it was a German ship or an Australian one. The story he told my mother, was that his parents and two sisters died during a bombing blitz during WW2. He escaped and came to Australia. What I can salvage from relatives is that he was born in Cologne on the 28th April 1898. I’m attaching a picture that we have of him (taken somewhere in the Pacific), and hope that the insignia (a bit blurry) on his cap will help identify his rank and the ship that he worked on.

Thank you for your time and hope you have a great day.

Kind regards,
Posa Skelton

Posa,

I have not been able to find any details about your God Father.

Here is the cap badge of a WW2 Merchant Navy Officer, and you can see the difference to that worn by Captain Maxwell Rintels.

Some shipping companies had there own particular Cap badge, but I am unable to identify the company's cap badge that Maxwell is wearing.

Rank is not discernable from a cap badge, only from gold rings on a uniform jacket. I do not suppose you have any further photos in uniform.

Sorry, I am of no help at all to you.

Regards,
Mac.
