Letters

Capt I E G Goldsworthy

December 22, 2008

Dear Mac

Fantastic website - well done and thankyou.

I found a letter on your site headed "Searching for information on Lancastria and the other ships involved in the St Nazaire evacuation, memoirs of Eskdale W. Thornton and would like to post a reply if that is possible.

He mentions my Grandfather - Capt I E G Goldsworthy.

Please can you let me know how I can contact Cliff Thornton?

Kind regards and Happy Christmas
Sally

Cliff,

This email is self explanatory, may I please give your address to Sally?

Regards,
Mac.

Sally,

Thank you for your very kind words about our AHOY site, my web master Terry Kearns in Atlanta Georgia does the really hard bit, turning my content into what appears in the public domain, without his dedication the site would not exist nor prosper.

One of my operating rules is never to give out any correspondents details without their prior approval, accordingly I have asked Chris for his OK to put you in touch with him, back to you when he responds.

Regards,
Mac.

Hi Mac

Thanks very much.

Perhaps I can send in a letter which could appear on the site too. However, before I do that, I would like to clarify the information I have about Grandpa and his experiences, with my Mum.

I know he was blown clean off the bridge of the Oronsay and did sustain an injury, I believe to his head.

He later became Commodore of the Orient Line, but maybe this was after the war?

If it is of interest, I will email again with more details.

Many thanks again for your informative and fascinating site.

Happy Christmas and kind regards
Sally Newcomb

Sally,

Yes please I would like more details, and we will put your response up on AHOY, if that is your wish, Chris is happy to hear from you.

Best,
Mac
