Bruce Loxton R.I.P. Midshipman on the bridge of Canberra at the Battle of Savo Island. Author of  "The Shame of Savo: Anatomy of a Naval Disaster"

Mr Gregory,

I came upon your website when I googled my father looking for  material for his eulogy. Sadly he died on Thursday night. The effort of supporting his lungs, which were crippled by asbestosis, was too much for his heart.

Diccon Loxton

Hello,

Thank you for your message, I am indeed saddened to learn that asbestosis has overcome your Father.

His definitive work on the Battle of Savo Island did a great deal to put that night into its proper context, I treasure my copy which he generously inscribed. The Shame of Savo: Anatomy of a Naval Disaster

LOXTON, B. with COULTHARD-CLARK- Clark, C. The Shame of Savo. Anatomy of a Naval Disaster

When I came across Bruce so badly wounded, I am afraid I despaired for his life, but his fighting spirit pulled him through to go on to a distinguished career in the RAN.

Please offer my sympathy and thoughts to your Mother, and naturally to your self and family at this awful time.

Kindest regards,
Mac. Gregory.
