Atkinson was serving on SS Ramillies when it was torpedoed and sunk on 8th May, 1941

Mac

I read your 'blog' with great interest as my uncle, Charles Atkinson was serving on SS Ramillies when it was torpedoed and sunk on 8th May, 1941. He was 21 years of age, single and employed on the ship as a Carpenter.

He was born and lived in Wallsend-on-Tyne, Northumberland, England which is not far from Hartlepool where the ship was built.

There is a report of an interview with Chief Officer, Mr. W.M. Ellis which describes the circumstances surrounding the sinking and details of how the survivers managed to get to shore. It is on the following web site WWW.Maritime-Research.Co.UK
