Athenia passengers: George Bihun (age 16),William Bihun (age 14),Walter Bihun (age 12)

March 02, 2009

Hi there....My name is Joyce Huska and my Dad and his two brothers were travelling on the Athenia at the time it was torpedoed, Sept 3rd,1939. My Dad speaks of his ordeal quite often but we have never found a passenger list..so I am guessing because there was not one found? I have a copy of their passport, it was of the three of them together. They were joining my grandparents in Lamont, Alberta. They are Polish/Ukrainian nationality and had been in Poland with relatives for a number of years as the paperwork was being arranged for them to travel to Alberta, Canada. There names are George Bihun (age 16),William Bihun (age 14),Walter Bihun (age 12). If you would like further information , please feel free to e-mail me. Thank-you for your time  Joyce Huska

Joyce,

Thank you for your message, a copy of the passport and any details that your Dad might share so that we might upload it all to our Athenia Pages on AHOY would be good.

Best regards,
Mac

Hi Mac,

Thank-you for getting back to me so quickly. I am happy to get going on adding my Dad and Uncles to the Survivor list. Both  of my Uncles are deceased, however my Dad is very healthy and alive. He is 83 and still bucks wood like a teenager. He is quite amazing. Anyhow...the picture enclosed is their passport on that unbelievable voyage in Athenia. Unfortunately, my Dad was broken into and the original passport was stolen. In the passport picture from left to right is first Walter (Ladimar) Bihun, Born-1927, Age 12.center is George (Yurko) Bihun, Born-1923, age 16. William (Wasyslo) Bihun, Born -1925,age 14.
