Alice & Kathleen Michie survivied sinking of Athenia

Hello there Mac..........I have found a manuscript in some papers that were left to us to clear out. And in these papers I have found an account of two sister that were on the Athenia II written by them both. So it is that I am inquiring of you if you would be able to tell me if their names appear on a manifest anywhere. I have researched their names however I have fail to find a full list of the Athenia anywhere so here are their names. They are from Vancouver Canada and their names are Alice & Kathleen Michie. Let me know.

Best regards
George

George,

Your two ladies are not on my lists for the City of Flint that took survivors to Halifax, nor on the list for the Tanker Knute Nelson that took survivors to Galway.

The three RN destroyers Fame, Escort and Electra took many survivors to Glasgow, but I have never been able to uncover any full list of those survivors. They are not amongst the limited list I have of those landed in Glasgow.

I am sure that Alice and Kathleen Michie would have been amongst those saved by one of the three RN destroyers and taken to Glasgow.

I would love to have a copy of their account of the sinking of Athenia so we might add their story to the Athenia Pages on AHOY.

Have never uncovered a full manifest of all of Athenia's passengers from that fateful voyage.

Best regards,

Mac.

The manuscript says that they were taken aboard the Sourthern Cross at 5:30 am 9 1/2 hours in the open boat ......perhaps that will help ........

once again

Best regards
George

George,

Maybe I am wrong in assuming your ladies went off to Greenock or Glasgow via one of the RN destroyers.

In general those rescued by the yacht Southern Cross wound up on board the City of Flint, and then went off to Halifax, but they do not feature on any of my lists for that ship.

Anyway in the final analysis all that mattered is that they were saved.

Regards,
Mac.
